Two weeks ago, War on the Swamp published an article calling out Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) for slamming Democrats for not "hold[ing] China accountable," as she has taken thousands of dollars from lobbyists representing companies that engage in overseas manufacturing with and outsource their jobs to China. Well, as it turns out, McSally's corruption and hypocrisy goes much deeper than just that.
On Monday, Steven Dennis of Bloomberg News reported on a soon-to-be-introduced bill from the senator called the American Tax Rebate and Incentive Program (TRIP) Act:
As the news broke, liberals and progressives on Twitter began to express anger towards McSally for what they say is letting the rich go on vacation as a growing number of Americans struggle financially.
In addition, McSally voted earlier this year for an amendment to the CARES Act, a coronavirus stimulus bill, "to strip an extra $600 per week from unemployment benefits included in" the package. While the amendment failed on the Senate floor, the fact that she is proposing giving money to Americans to take a vacation, which would likely disproportionately favor the wealthy, as many low-income Americans are struggling to put food on the table and pay their rent and mortgage, shows just how much she prioritizes the wealthy over the needs of the poor.
In spite of such, the senator's proposal should come as no surprise; the U.S. Travel Association has proposed the same idea as McSally. This matters because the association has donated thousands of dollars to Republican leadership PACs, including $10,000 each to Project West PAC and Majority Committee PAC, as well as $5,000 each to Rely on Your Beliefs, Let's Get to Work PAC, Bluegrass Committee, Heartland Values PAC, Promoting Our Republican Team PAC, and Responsibility & Freedom Work PAC. McSally has taken $10,000 from each of these leadership PACs, with the exception of Promoting Our Republican Team PAC (from which she has only taken $5,000).
Also, McSally released an ad earlier on Monday, claiming she is "taking on […] the Big Pharmaceutical companies."
Well, that statement is just demonstrably false. Throughout this election cycle, the senator has taken $74,001, in PAC money alone, from pharmaceutical industry, and although she has introduced legislation to cut prescription drug prices, the money she has taken from the industry puts her commitment to the issue into serious question. She also claims in the ad that she "will always protect those with pre-existing conditions; always." This is another obvious lie, as she voted twice, in 2015 and 2017, to repeal Obamacare, which prevents insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions. Her case certainly is not improved by the fact that she has taken $10,000 this cycle from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has run ads in the past "hammering Democrats over Obamacare."
Given these examples of corruption and hypocrisy from McSally, it is apparent that she does not intend to serve her constituents, and once again, she prioritizes the desires of her big-money donors over those she is supposed to represent.
